Mikel who started for the second game in succession was outstanding as he protected the back four and kept the ball moving in midfield.
“There are a lot of games to be played and if we can keep putting in these kind of performances the sky is our limit,” Mikel told Chelsea website.
“We need to keep believing but we don’t want to get carried away, we played well but we need to keep working hard in training.
“Let’s hope it’s a new year and a new Chelsea. We’ve been disappointed with our results but we’ve shown what type of team we are.”
The Nigerian went on to thank the supporters, who were in fine voice at Selhurst Park, for their backing this season.
“They’ve been supporting us when it hasn’t been great and stuck by us, we can’t ask for more from them,” he added.
“I want to say a big thank you for the support they’ve given us and hopefully we can keep producing this type of performance.”
